As someone who has the misfortune of living near this factory, I implore those with the ability to make major changes to the air quality of the surrounding neighborhood.
Weekly we are assaulted with overwhelming fumes of sulphur, burning chemical coatings, and smog.

There needs to be language and enforcement of maintaining and due diligence of the batteries and blast furnace maintenance and upkeep to mitigate the effects of what our city particularly in the west end are being exposed to.

Please start taking the pollution and health effects of Algoma Steel seriously. Too many people are getting sick, just so some make money. The black smoke coming out is disgusting, no one should have to live that way.
"Algoma has also applied for site specific standards for benzene, benzo(a)pyrene, total suspended particulate and sulphur dioxide emissions from the facility.

As a new resident of Sault Ste. Marie, I have noticed that compared with other cities I have lived in in Canada and abroad, that the chemicals expelled by the Algoma Steel mill are noticeable both visually and in an olfactory way.

The emissions rules are not followed now they are constantly going over the limit! The cancer rate in this town is ridiculous - I get that they employ a lot of people but they should not be allowed to not follow the rules.
The fact that the Algoma region already has the highest rates of cancer in Ontario, with Algoma Steel being our major source of air and water pollution, and considering that their MANY spills and overflows into the water that provides our drinking water, plus the high particulate matter and benzene,

Thanks for taking my comment. The plumes of 24hour black smoke and particulates clouds are the worst I've ever seen in my 50 years living in the Sault. My worries include no change in pollution even with an EAF in operation.

As a lifelong resident of Sault Ste Marie, I look forward to the new electric arc process at Algoma Steel, in the hope that pollution will be greatly reduced.

I live across the river in Sault Ste Marie Michigan. I always know when the wind is blowing out of the Northwest because I can smell the emissions from the Algoma Steel Plant. Often these emissions cause me to be congested and require allergy medication for temporary relief.

The air is definitely dirty as siding on our place and dust accumulates steadily
Noise is significant at night - but its like a train - you get somewhat used to it as time passes

The noise and air quality has been horrible for many years but especially over the last 3. The level of particles in the air is not safe and has not been captured and reported correctly.

I used to live in the country on a gravel road - but am now in town close to the plant. I have more dust to deal with here then ever before - outside AND inside
Will the EAF be allowed to operate when the baghouse is not operating? (*See note at bottom of this email)
What are the particles that will be captured by the baghouse? Are they hazardous to human health or the environment?
What happens to the "dust" collected by the baghouse?

I support the new electric arc furnace but Algoma Steel should be able to use new technologies in order to meet the air and noise pollution levels that are in place now.

Like most members of my community, I am not a scientist and have no expertise in pollution. There are many technical terms and chemical names in the proposal.

I live on Fort Creek Drive and sometimes in the middle of the night I can hear loud noises from the plant. I can only speculate what they are but at times it sounds like heavy objects being dropped. My house at times shakes from this.
