According to the New York Times: "INCHEON, South Korea — A landmark report from the United Nations’ scientific panel on climate change paints a far more dire picture of the immediate consequences of climate change than previously thought and says that avoiding the damage requires transforming the world economy at a speed and scale that has “no documented historic precedent.”
The report, issued on Monday by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a group of scientists convened by the United Nations to guide world leaders, describes a world of worsening food shortages and wildfires, and a mass die-off of coral reefs as soon as 2040 — a period well within the lifetime of much of the global population."
In addition, most economists agree that paying a "Carbon Tax" is the only way to legitimately fight "climate change". Pay for what you use. No one should be able to use a resource and not pay for it or its consequence.
By killing the so-called "carbon tax", Doug Ford is trading the future of our children for a few pennies on a liter of gas. This decision is not only short-sighted but moves Canada in the wrong direction with respect to fighting "climate change". Clearly, he and his government, don't understand or appreciate the magnitude of the impending problem. His approach is 100% wrong-headed and I would ask that this decision be reconsidered.
We must act NOW if we have any hope of averting more environmental disasters and that means keeping cap and trade in place.
