This is a financially and socially reckless bill.
Financially it is irresponsible, as it wastes tax money previously spent. That alone should be grounds to stop this bill. It is hypocritical of the government to proceed with considering that when they were not forming government, the Conservative Party spoke so critically of the gas plant cancellation. This is the same situation and represents a massive disrespect to the taxpayer. It is worse, in fact.
It is socially irresponsible because of the recent news of the UN expert panel stating that there is only 12 years to avoid surpassing catastrophic temperature thresholds related to climate change. As the parent of an infant child, and with many years of expected life of my own as well, a government that cancels a plan with nothing in place, is actively failing in it's duty to its residents. Nobody deserves a government that fails to address an existential threat
This is in fact the opposite of the kind of action that should be taken by the government. I want a government that will enhance cap and trade, significantly invest in clean energy and environmental protection, provide incentives to individuals and businesses to reduce energy and carbon production, and hold polluters to account.
Preventing legal action in relation to passing this bill would be contrary to Charter Rights and Fundamental Principles of Justice and an offense to the most basic principles of democracy.

In light of the above, to proceed with bill 4 would be criminally negligent.

From the Criminal Code (R.S.C., 1985, c. C-46)

Criminal negligence

219 (1) Every one is criminally negligent who

(a) in doing anything, or

(b) in omitting to do anything that it is his duty to do,

shows wanton or reckless disregard for the lives or safety of other persons.

Definition of duty

(2) For the purposes of this section, duty means a duty imposed by law.

R.S., c. C-34, s. 202.
