In order to ensure future energy needs (especially electricity) the government of Ontario needs to deeply consider ways to continue to decentralize generation. Home electricity generation has been proven to reduce costs for home owners, is more environmental sustainable and decreases loads on the grid. Reducing costs for property owners or renters is a serious need for Ontarians at this time. Further, decentralized generation by small business for in business use or to sell to the grid has also been proven to reduce business cost (can even be a source of revenue) and provide greater stability for small businesses. Encouraging entrepreneurship and assisting small businesses support Ontario's economy and helps provide meaningful work for many. The government should explore ways to subsidize and provide other incentives to home and business owners to generate energy locally. They should take steps to reduce barriers to connecting to the grid and selling power. Making connecting and selling to the grid easier will reduce costs and increase uptake. By decentralizing in this way the government of Ontario can easily reach generation targets, save millions on expensive large scale capital projects, reduce risk to tax payers, reduce nuclear and empower millions of Ontarians economically.
