I feel this is a very short sighted decision, there is nothing in place to replace the bill. This leaves Ontario with the federal regulation which does not flow money back into the economy in the same way.
Ontario has commitments to the other members of our cap and trade program that will need to be addressed and lowly will have legal ramifications and costs associated with dropping out.
The cap and trade program funding would have created programs that benefited Ontario businesses and households.
Dropping all commitments to mitigating climate change is unfair to future generations.
Legitimate studies by IPCC and others are proof that we have to act now if we want to prevent catastrophic consequences. For the future of my children I want my government to act on existing commitments and brings innovation to solve problems, not systemically break every commitment that was put in place by the previous government simply because it was not their policy.
