In view of the increasingly dire predictions from the climate science community on the consequences of anything less than radical action to mitigate greenhouse emissions and enhance natural carbon sinks (by preserving forest ecosystems for example), it seems rather ridiculous to be rolling back measures already in place, as incomplete or imperfect as they may be. And why would anyone believe at this point that this government is likely to propose anything of consequence to protect our grandchildren if it interferes with the sacred right of the oil industry to make money? Of course this is false economy writ large; there is new wealth to be generated from the conversion to a sane energy regime. We can't just keep kicking this ball down the street and expect to be saved from the precipice by a miracle.
