As the Nobel prize winner William Nordhaus' work demonstrates, the pricing of carbon is the easiest, cheapest, and most straightforward way to foster the innovation needed to stop the negative effects of climate change.
Repealing the cap-and-trade program might be reasonable once a replacement program that effectively prices carbon is detailed and ready to be put in place.
To repeal it on a such a short timeline without a replacement that will have a similar positive impact on the province and the wider world is a terrible move. It takes Ontario from being a leader to the back of the pack.
