I’m choosing to leave a comment on this registry because the decision to exempt Highway 413 from the Environmental Assessment Act is discouraging, particularly for younger people like myself, who share the responsibility in building a sustainable future for generations beyond.
If we continue to preach environmental awareness, but lack the initiative or show ignorance in exercising said practice, thereby neglecting the implementation of what's clearly articulated in the EAA, stating “…providing for the protection, conservation, and wise management in Ontario of the environment” our province will inevitably suffer, and so too will its people and its wildlife. The EAA ultimately exists to ensure that development occurs responsibly, considering both environmental and public health. Without it the potential for irreparable damage to Ontario’s valued ecosystems and communities is far too prominent.
It would appear that this decision is granting the hazardous liberty of “doing as we please” rather than “doing what is right.” I strongly implore the government to reassess this dire exemption.
