It's unfortunate to see the government of Ontario actively trying to find workarounds to the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA). The passing of the Highway 413 Act by way of Bill 212 "Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act, 2024" would have its own own assessment and mitigation plans for the affected area. Although the inception of the EAA in 1990 seemed to be a strong step towards coexisting with our natural world, if it can simply be surpassed by project specific mitigation plans it loses a lot of its credibility. Due to the overarching theme of this act being speed and acceleration of installment I highly doubt it will be as effective as the EAA and I do not agree with its inception.
