I am concerned that the repeal of cap and trade is indicative of this government's insufficiently serious approach to fighting climate change. In the past few days, we've been reading extensively about the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's most recent report, which states that:
"Unless governments around the globe undertake “unprecedented” action to reverse it, Earth’s temperatures will soar upwards of 1.5-degrees Celsius, or 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit, over preindustrial levels by the end of the century."

I feel that cap and trade is not drastic enough to meet these requirements. Ontario's economy was strong before the Progressive Conservatives came to power. If the manufacturing sector is in decline, this is likely more to do with market forces than it is with restrictive government policies. There is no need to enact protectionist measures to artificially prop up the manufacturing sector. Urgent, drastic and far-reaching action needs to be taken to address climate change NOW. Instead, the Progressive Conservative government is inspiring other provincial governments to backtrack on their climate commitments. Everybody involved in such actions should be ashamed.
