Cancelling the cap & trade program is both immoral and economically short-sighted. It is inevitable that a significant price must be placed on excessive emissions of greenhouse gases. The longer we delay implementing (and increasing) the cost, the more abrupt and risky the economic impact of this policy will be to Ontarians. The proceeds of the cap & trade program were being invested in initiatives that were both environmentally and economically beneficial, and their cancellation does not seem to be based on data or fact, but rather political pandering. I would urge the government to reconsider how the revenue could be best distributed to the benefit of all Ontarians, especially lower income households.
