I attended the ASI open house on Oct 23, 2024. I was disappointed that Ministry persons were not in attendance to receive comments or questions. I have great concerns regarding the amount of cancer causing chemicals that ASI is and will be allowed to continue spewing into the air in Sault Ste Marie and Algoma. Why is our provincial Ministry of Environment not protecting the citizens of Sault Ste Marie and Algoma? The application by ASI allows for levels of contaminants that are above the provincial standard. Why is that?
As to the planned EAF which will not be functioning for several years, my questions are:
Will the EAF be allowed to operate if the baghouse is not operating?
What are the particles that will be captured by the baghouse?
Are they hazardous to human health or the environment?
What happens to the "dust" that is collected by the baghouse?
