Algoma Steel has been exempt from emissions standards for long enough. What is the point of standards if they can be bypassed? Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma District lead the province in rates of many cancers and other illnesses as a direct result of industrial emissions and environmental contamination. It is time the sources were held accountable! In a community with a paucity of medical professionals, we do not need further increased disease burden. Economic variables are only one side of this argument and continue to win out over the health of the population. Take a stand for once.
