Skipping the environmental assessment to build a highway clearly shows that the Ford government does not care about the environment or sustainability. Building the highway 413 will tear through the greenbelt and destroy habitats of many species, not to mention that every study has shown that building highways does not reduce congestion. This will be a waste of taxpayer's money, do nothing to improve congestion while adding more cars and pollution to the roads when this money should be going to sustainable alternatives such as public transportation and biking infrastructure (despite the Ford government also wasting money on ripping out bike lanes already built). Even just subsidizing trucks to use the 407, which is already underutilized as a highway, will at least do more to help with congestion by at least leveraging infrastructure that is already built. This is not the right thing to do, and it is abundantly clear the Ford government does not care about building a better Ontario, just lining their pockets when they push bills and projects through without doing the due diligence.
