I have an issue with the request by Algoma Steel to exceed emission standards. They have disregarded these laws time and again. The pitch black smoke coming from their stacks in late evenings is disturbing. I gave up on my clothsline years ago since the black soot covering it even if it was cleaned the prior day made it not usable. It covers my car and my rain water barrel is full of black water. I use it to water my vegetable garden. What health consequences will there be. The smell of the air at times is awful and makes my lungs hurt. I had to go to the emergency department when I couldnt breath. The doctor asked me if I live in the west end. I guess this is a commen occurence having breathing problems from living close to the plant. I have never smoked so have no reason to have breathing issues. In the evenings the noise is very noticable with the train whistle, the beeping of vehicles backing up and the general industrial constant noise not to mention the occasional loud explosions. The sky glows red at night from their dumping of toxic tailings. There seems to be no consequenses to these breaches.
