I am appalled at the actions of the new Ontario government with respect to dealing with climate change. It has been proven that putting a price on emissions and making polluters pay, including individual citizens such as myself, does change habits and causes citizens to reduce their emissions. To eradicate incentives to reduce carbon emissions is simply not the way to go. It ignores what science tells us is necessary to preserve our planet. The new Ford government clearly is playing to "their base" and ignoring Canada's commitment to our international agreements. I find it particularly appalling that some of the funds that have been raised through Cap and Trade during the eighteen months of its existence that have already begun to encourage and promote innovative projects to reduce carbon emissions in this province, will be used to dismantle an almost completed wind energy project in this province. This sounds to me very much like the "gas plant scandal" that the Conservatives have been harping on for the past ten years. The message these kinds of reckless actions send is that Ontario cannot be trusted to stand by its contractual agreements and commitments. Investors will have to think twice before investing in Ontario in the future as the type of provincial government we now have cannot be trusted to stand by its commitments. I am further appalled by this government's lack of recognition of the fact that we were becoming a world leader in the development and production of clean, renewable, green energy which was producing many good jobs for Ontario residents while at the same time being responsible international citizens. The short-sightedness of this government's policies is nothing short of frightening and makes me ashamed of the government.
