Climate Change is causing severe drought which affects our groundwater resources and the farms in Wellington County (where I live) which depend on them for irrigation of crops. Big Corporations like Nestle which pumps millions of liters of water a day aren't concerned with the bigger picture. Nor do they care if they deplete the water for wells for rural residents. For the past two years I've noticed how low the West Credit River has become in summer. Guelph lake is also receding. Also with less snow in winter due to rising temperatures, there is more chance for heavy rain storms in spring to cause flooding and run off from farms. We can't allow big foreign corporations to deplete our local water resources to the detriment of our farmers and residents who pay taxes in Ontario/Canada for our water and roads which are being sorely degraded by all of Nestlé's and other water-taking companies' trucks to haul the water. While I commend the Ontario Government for extending the moratorium on water-taking permits to conduct further research into our water resources and the impact of the millions of liters/day being pumped out of our wells in Hillsburgh and Elora, I strongly believe there should be a PERMANENT MORATORIUM on water-taking. We do not want to get into the situation where our groundwater resources are depleted to the point of having to truck in water!
