I’m concerned about anything that would potentially increase any emissions that would contribute to the already alarming cancer risks from living in Sault Ste. Marie. My husband is a physician who has been following this and he often expresses his concerns regarding the cancer rates in this city, including the fact that we lead some of the cancer rates. I don’t think it’s appropriate for a company to have the option to not follow guidelines re emissions. I feel algoma steel has often found ways to not comply, even if they have undertaken the “appropriate” route to do so. I feel it is unacceptable to have such a shortsighted goal of profit vs the health of an entire community. If people are sick, no one will be working there.
