I do not agree with this change in legislation. In order to address GHG emissions and address climate change, we need more renewable energy on the grid and we need to change over from fossil fuel energy sources. We also need to create incentives to electrify the transportation system, so that we can use more sustainable electricity in the future. Power generation, distribution and consumption is a complicated system. We cannot oversimplify the issue with a regulation such as this. We have to plan for the future and address climate change. How will this type of legislative thinking work with the support for the refurbishment of the Pickering nuclear power plant? Will the same rule apply? The demand for electricity must be there for the next 10 to 15 years? How about switching to renewable energy instead of nuclear? From my understanding with nuclear, it would be more expensive and they still don't know what to do with nuclear waste.
