Billboards along the highways are distracting and unsafe, we want people's eyes on the road and this flies in the face of all the province's messages about distracted driving. Distracted driving is fine as long as people are making money off of it. Is that the message? Billboards are designed to do one and only one thing - grab eyes. I don't know we're even having this discussion. Has the province done a study of how many accidents are acceptable from this? How many deaths? One distracted driving death = a million in revenue? More? Less? When autonomous cars are ubiquitous we can reopen this part of the conversation.
The visual pollution literally undoes the efforts of Tourism Ontario by distracting from the beauty of the province. Aside from a little bit of revenue I simply haven't heard of any good arguments in favour of these signs.
Please leave things as they are right now.
Thanks.
