Double crested cormorants breed alongside various other species of protected (and in many cases, declining waterbirds). Allowing this species to be shot could cause considerable disturbance to other species. Why should fishing interests, and the interests of landowners, have precedence over a bird species that has - thankfully- returned to something like its former numbers prior to the use of organochlorine pesticides? This proposal requires considerably more thought.
