Highway 413 should not be built, not only because of negative consequences such as significant habitat loss of endangered species, loss of over 2,000 acres of farmland, and the destruction of Indigenous lands; but also because this reflects an unproductive way of building infrastructure and does not reflect the way we should be moving forward as a province. It's a continuation of our unsustainable approach to infrastructure. We can't keep destroying our environment while turning a blind eye in the name of progress. Progress can happen but we need to conduct proper environmental assessments and consult Indigenous communities and the people affected, and then move forward with better solutions. In this case we should explore improving public transport and moving commercial traffic onto the 417. To fix the congestion in the GTA is a mammoth of a problem but the solution is not expanding, but to fix our already faulty infrastructure. There are smart people out there itching to solve problems just like this and to direct our taxes to an evolved infrastructure. Moving forward while prioritizing our environment will help our future progression as a society.
