In consideration of launching Ontario’s first integrated energy resource plan, Halton Region staff support the move to an affordable, reliable, and clean energy system. Affordability and reliability will be driven by the expansion of the renewable market and with the increase of global and local investments.

As Ontario advances electrification, it is crucial that the path forward utilizes clean and green resources. Maintaining Ontario’s clean energy advantage and using it to electrify the economy to reduce emissions is critical.

As per Halton Region's Corporate Climate Action Plan endorsed by Regional Council on November 22, 2023, the Region has a net zero target of 2045. Further, Halton Region’s corporate climate mission is to be a resilient corporation that achieves Net Zero by 2045 that provides a safe and healthy community for all Halton residents now and into the future. Ensuring renewable sources of energy are prioritized will be essential for corporations, organizations, and governments to achieve their net zero ambitions.

As outlined by AMO, an integrated approach that sees local growth, housing, and economic needs at the centre of energy planning is required. Municipalities also need continued provincial support, resources, and guidance to be informed and active partners in Ontario’s energy future as well as a commitment to ensure that the cost and risks of funding new energy infrastructure shifts and programming will not be transferred to municipalities.
