There is a severe shortage of affordable housing in Listowel and this plan has done nothing to change that. When comparing this plan to the old one it replaces, there are still tens if not hundreds of acres of useless Industrial land on the south end of Listowel that should have been changed over to residential to provide much-needed affordable housing for people years ago. The land I am talking about is from Wallace Avenue South over to Bassett Avenue South, and North of line 84. There is a huge pond there. That Industrial land has been sitting vacant and undeveloped for over 30 years when it could have been providing much-needed affordable housing for people. In my opinion, this New Official Plan is a complete failure for the people of Listowel and should not be approved by the Minister until more land is provided for much-needed affordable housing. Listowel especially has a shortage of low-rise type apartment buildings. That industrial land would be perfect for these types of low-rise apartment buildings, which would provide higher housing density completely in line with the Provincial mandate to increase housing density near major transportation routes like what's happening in Toronto near the Eglinton LRT. Line 84 is a major transportation route for Listowel and should be surrounded by residential. I repeat, this plan should NOT be signed by the Minister and approved until this land has been changed over to residential.
