What principles should the government provide to the OEB to help inform the Board’s ongoing development of natural gas connection policies?
There can be only one overriding principle and that is the complete phase out of burning fossil fuels, including natural gas for electricity generation, home heating and industrial uses in the Province in the next 5 years; and that may even be too long
What role should natural gas play in supporting energy affordability and customer choice in residential and small commercial applications (e.g., space and water heating)?
Natural gas has no role to play if we wish to avoid catastrophic disaster resulting from an overheated environment producing wildfires, extreme weather events, drought and floods making the earth uninhabitable.
What role should natural gas play in supporting economic development in Ontario’s industrial and agricultural sectors, including those processes that may be difficult to electrify?
We should be investing heavily in electrification of all processes and the innovative science to enable a carbon free environment.
What role should the government play in supporting and expediting the rational expansion of the natural gas system to make home heating more affordable and support economic growth in communities that are seeking natural gas service?
Absolutely none. The government's role is to lead the province into a noncarbon based power generation of the future and support no further expansion of natural gas usages
For natural gas expansion projects receiving government support, should the approvals processes be streamlined to support affordable home heating for Ontarians? In what ways?
The Ontario government should not be supporting any expansion of natural gas projects! There should be zero approval of natural gas expansion. Instead the clean alternative heat pump technology should be bolstered as an affordable non carbon alternative
What role should natural gas play in supporting power system security and resiliency? Again, natural gas is a GHG emitting fuel and has no place in the power system and must be entirely phased out in the very near future.
What role should natural gas play in offsetting higher GHG-emitting fuel sources? Natural gas does not have a role in offsetting "higher" emitting sources...it's like saying to a drug addict Cocaine and Heroin are much better for you than Fentanyl
What are the challenges and opportunities for enhanced energy efficiency, adoption of clean fuels (e.g., RNG, Hydrogen) and emission reduction methods (e.g., carbon capture and storage) to lower emissions in the natural gas system? The challenge is for the Government of Ontario to simply recognize there are already existing clean alternatives to natural gas and demonstrate the political will and backbone to eliminate use of carbon fuels to become world leaders in alternative forms of energy production. If you don't burn carbon there is no reason to spend the billion$ necessary to try and recapture it. Spend the money on alternatives and pray we can avoid Armageddon.
