Founded in1989, QSP Geographics is an Ontario based and trusted provider of engineering and technical services to the utility, land and municipal sectors. With a team of over 100 employees, approximately 75% of our business is focused on the natural gas sector.
We believe, as do most experts in the energy industry, that natural gas is a vital component of a balanced energy mix. It provides a practical transition toward lower emissions while ensuring energy remains affordable and reliable. We align with the Ontario government’s position that the Ontario Energy Board must facilitate the rational expansion and maintenance of the natural gas system to promote economic growth and competitiveness.
At the same time, QSP recognizes the urgency of addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This will require significant progress in electrifying industry, transportation, and heating. However, this transition will not happen overnight and not without a massive increase in electrical generation capacity and transmission. In the short and medium term, and likely even in the long term, natural gas will remain indispensable as a reliable energy source, especially where other energy options are inadequate or inconsistent. Ontario's relatively clean, abundant, diverse and affordable energy supply offer a distinct competitive advantage in a global economy with increasing energy demands which makes Ontario a great place to invest in.
To meet this demand, it is essential that Ontario maintain an integrated, all-of-the-above energy strategy to ensure affordability and reliability. The government must empower industrial, commercial, and residential customers with the flexibility to meet their energy needs within their budgets and timelines.
The natural gas industry supports thousands of stable, well-paying jobs across Ontario, offering competitive wages, benefits, and opportunities that help workers build secure futures. These jobs also bolster local economies, with employees spending their earnings within their communities, strengthening local tax bases, supporting businesses, and funding public services.
Protecting the role of natural gas in Ontario’s energy landscape will facilitate the growth of cleaner, independent and more resilient industries, while reducing reliance on foreign energy and products, enhancing national security and independence, and ensuring the creation of stable, local jobs.
