I strongly support the proposal to initiate a series of regulatory and legislative amendments to manage and control cormorant populations in Ontario. My decision is best summed up by the resolution passed by the U.S. and Canadian advisers to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission in May 2018, where they recommended integrated management and control of cormorant populations across the Great Lakes Basin. The resolution is attached, along with two source documents that explain in part the reason for this resolution and decision. Cormorant populations in Ontario are, and have been for some time, far too abundant to permit the sustainable use of Ontario fish and fisheries.
