I am deeply opposed to the Ontario government's proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act and Species Conservation Act. This legislation weakens vital protections for at-risk species and their habitats at a time when bold action is needed to confront the biodiversity crisis. It also shows a troubling disregard for the rights of Indigenous communities, violating the duty to consult and undermining commitments under Canadian law and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

Protecting our natural ecosystems and respecting Indigenous sovereignty are not barriers to progress—they are essential to a healthy, sustainable future. This bill prioritizes short-term interests over long-term responsibility and fails to reflect the values and voices of the people of Ontario.

I urge the government to immediately withdraw this bill and commit to transparent, inclusive dialogue with Indigenous leaders, scientists, environmental advocates, and the broader public. Conservation must be grounded in science, respect, and justice—not political expediency.
