I strongly oppose this new legislation, which puts endangered wildlife and ecosystems at risk of irreversible harm and ignores the rights and sovereignty of Indigenous communities.

This bill is a profound failure of responsible governance. It not only ignores the urgent environmental challenges we face, but also undermines science-based conservation efforts and ignores the meaningful consultation with Indigenous Peoples required by both Canadian law and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Our province's beautiful natural heritage, scientific facts, and the rights of First Nations Peoples are not an obstacle to development. They are a requirement for a just and sustainable future. Any legislation that affects land, water, and biodiversity must be developed transparently and collaboratively, with full participation from Indigenous nations, the scientific community, and impacted communities. This bill does the exact opposite of this.

I urge this government to withdraw this legislation and engage in genuine consultation with Indigenous leaders, scientists, environmental experts, and the public. Protecting endangered species and preserving our beautiful province for future generations is our moral and legal obligation.
