I don't understand why there is this narrative that environmental protection is red tape stopping housing development. There is tons of space for both new building and densification in all our cities and towns without needing any change to the existing framework. Removing a strict, science-driven framework and replacing it with a looser one that defaults to approval will only encourage suburban sprawl that will both cost us more in the long run, and destroy countless habitats. Having significant swaths of pristine wilderness is fundamental to the Canadian identity, and encouraging their destruction is not something that can be supported.
