The proposed definition of habitat is woefully inadequate and will lead to indirect and direct harm of endangered species. It displays a profound lack of understanding or willful ignorance of the ecological systems and environmental pressures that impact an organism’s entire life cycle and needs.
The proposed process also places entirely too much undue trust in the good faith and knowledgeable action of those whose motives and expertise do not align with what should be the intent of a species conservation act.
The government should also not have the sole discretion to decide what is and isn’t endangered. Unbiased scientific expertise, free from political interference, and respect of indigenous sovereignty and treaty rights, need to be applied.
