This bill is the absolute worst pandering to developers yet. This government has not yet gotten past the Greenbelt scandal, and now this?
There will no doubt be many other comments about this that go into far more detail. I will point out two things that immediately occur to me.
One, it is ludicrous that the government is allowed to remove species from the endangered list at its discretion. This makes the entire exercise pointless. Nothing is being protected except for the wallets of developers and their benefactors.
Two, I can't help but note the timing of this proposal. It was submitted the day before a long weekend. This signals that the government knows this will be deeply unpopular and hoped to avoid notice. This government has learned nothing.
This legislation will do irreparable damage to this province in the pursuit of short term economic gain. The government has a responsibility to all Ontarians, present and future. Do not do this.
