This proposal is defined by a profound lack of forethought, and basic understanding of why we have SARA and so called "red tape" for environmental protections. The first thing that comes to mind is the green belt scandal. Ontario has been built on flood plains that include buried waterways, and the desire to roll back environmental protections will have vast economic consequences for the province that will include damage due to flooding, and eventual decommission of places where this has taken place(one such example is McMaster university that was forced to downsize parking due to incessant flooding created by paving over floodplain).

It is beyond belief that the government would choose to cost itself untold billions in damages over a misrepresentation of why these Conservation rules exist in the first place, and a desire to work fast, break things, and deal with the financial damages later. One also has to wonder why we have developed so many buildings or otherwise left others to rot inside cities and towns where ample space for development exists, and units go up that no one can afford to live in that just rot away.

It seems the focus here is not on what is most fiscally conservative, or what is best for the people of Ontario, but what is best at lining the pockets of a precious few that seemingly either lack education, or are deliberately disingenuous about why our environmental protections exist. They don't just exist to stimy someone's developer buddies due to "one grasshopper in a field" to quote Mr. Ford, they exist to protect the people this province is for making a living in as well.

Most comments will mention Ontario's heritage, our tourism industry that is going to rely on our natural spaces, that there is inherent value to protecting biodiversity, and that this is an affront to the indigenous peoples whose rights are to be further trampled by this new proposal(and indeed this is all true. Ford talks of the ring of fire but fails to mention that his government has been obfuscating any attempts to actually get mines up and running and creating barriers to people who are willing and in need of work simply because he doesn't like their demographic), but one must also make note of the astounding lack of economic and financial sense and that seeming willingness to cost the province further financial stress with the consequences of rolling back environmental protections. I make note of this because we all know people who don't care about people won't be swayed by the appeals to emotion or simple logical reason. They are driven by greed, and greed will have to be the appeal.

This is poor finances by this province. This is bad "fiscal" conservation. It's deal making by people who have no idea the value of a dollar. That is embarrassing. The whole proposal is an embarrassment for this province. Do better.
