These legislative changes would absolutely be a mistake. Ontario needs a diverse ecosystem if plant, animal, and human life in this province is to flourish in future generations. The vast majority of scientists agree that the planet Earth is undergoing an extinction event caused by human activity; without protections put in place by humans, a diverse ecosystem cannot exist, in Ontario or elsewhere.
While housing, transit, and infrastructure are important issues, they can be addressed at any point in the future, in a variety of ways. Once a species goes extinct, however, it is gone for good, and contrary to popular belief, it can't be brought back. Weighing the importance of these issues, it's no contest. One is time sensitive, with no room for error. The other is not.
Delays, while regrettable, are necessary if we're going to get things right. I'd rather a system where infrastructure projects in Ontario take the time needed to make sure no damages are done than a system where destructive projects can be approved and executed while the public is none the wiser.
