This proposed bill is a reckless and short-sighted assault on Indigenous rights, environmental protections, and democratic accountability. Fast-tracking mining and infrastructure projects in ecologically sensitive areas like the Ring of Fire without meaningful consultation or consent from affected Indigenous communities — blatantly disregards constitutional obligations and centuries of stewardship.
The shift to a “register-first, ask-questions-later” model for species-at-risk permits undermines science-based decision-making and opens the door to irreversible harm to fragile ecosystems.
Granting Cabinet sweeping powers to carve out “special economic zones” exempt from key laws strips away transparency and oversight, enabling corporate interests to override public interest. These measures prioritize short-term profits over long-term environmental, social, and economic sustainability — a path that will cost future generations dearly.
