So let me get this straight: you are proposing that “faster” transit/housing is worth the death of hundreds— if not thousands or tens of thousands— of living beings? For starters, transit is suffering because you are removing bike lanes, putting folks who wish to take non-car transport at risk (and likely increasing the amount of folks who will then choose to drive to work, as biking is no longer an option, slowing traffic down). Second of all, there are tens of thousands of empty apartments in the city of Toronto alone. We have housing; what needs to be done is policy to distribute it equally. Leave our nature alone. Nature needs more protection, not less— we cannot get it back once it’s gone, and these are lives in the balance.
