The proposal is a poorly disguised attempt of increasing urban and suburban sprawl in our province. The specified cases of housing, infrastructure and public transit are all things which are best suited to dense and multi-use zoning, which isn't the case of most of our urban areas in this province. The correct method would be to change bylaws at both provincial and municipal levels. This proposal however would make it easier for cities to build out instead of up, which increases air pollution, road congestion, makes public transit and infrastructure projects more expensive and reduces availability of recreational spaces for camping, hiking, etc. outside of the city. This is not a new problem or a new idea, we have seen it happen over and over in many cities, just look at Los Angeles as an example.
