I am writing to express my unequivocal opposition to any attempt by your government to weaken or roll back the Endangered Species Act of 2007.
This legislation was put in place to safeguard Ontario’s most vulnerable species and the delicate ecosystems they depend on. Rolling back its protections to favour short-term development or industry gains is not only shortsighted, it is dangerously irresponsible. We are living in a time of escalating climate crisis and biodiversity collapse. The last thing Ontario needs is a government that chooses to side with special interests over science, sustainability, and the public good.
You were not elected to gut environmental protections. You were not elected to gamble with Ontario’s future. The Endangered Species Act is not red tape. It is a lifeline for countless plant and animal species already on the brink. Diluting its power undermines the very foundation of conservation in this province and sends a clear message: profits over planet.
Ontarians are watching. We see what your government is doing, and we will not stand by quietly while the natural heritage of this province is sold off, parcel by parcel, species by species.
I urge you to abandon any plan to weaken the Endangered Species Act and instead invest in its enforcement, its science, and its long-term vision. Future generations are depending on it.
