I strongly oppose this proposal, which would significantly weaken Ontario’s environmental protections under the guise of streamlining infrastructure development. Our natural ecosystems are not obstacles to development — they are the very foundation of our health, economy, and quality of life. Eroding these protections risks irreversible harm to Ontario’s biodiversity, water sources, and climate resilience.
Moreover, bypassing consultation with Indigenous Nations is not only deeply unethical but also a direct violation of constitutionally protected Indigenous rights and established treaty obligations. Such an approach ignores the government’s legal duty to consult and accommodate, setting the stage for costly litigation, delays, and a loss of public trust — outcomes that are neither efficient nor responsible.
This proposal would sacrifice long-term sustainability and justice for short-term convenience. I urge you to withdraw it and commit instead to an approach that respects the environment, honours Indigenous rights, and reflects the values of all Ontarians.
