This proposal is short-sighted and will not alleviate the issues that it sets out to address. Development should not come at the expense of our environment. Future generations have a right to utilize and enjoy our natural resources and this proposal will short-change them on this right.
This proposal will also increase ill-will between the government and First Nations groups as well as promoting government waste through its gutting of the environmental assessment processes. These environmental assessment procedures are vital to protecting the health of the land and the human communities that live on it. Stripping away environmental protections will not speed up development, it will just result in a proliferation of lawsuits and negative press that will eat up government resources.
