I think this proposed change guts the protections granted to critical habitats and endangered species in Ontario. I note the following:
-By acquiring a permit one may engage in 'activities that are likely to kill, harm, capture, or take a member of a species listed on the Protected Species in Ontario List' without any mention of requirements for permitting or a proposed permitting process.
-One may freely harass animals without any kind of repercussion, which may be sufficient to clear a habitat of at-risk species, depending on the methods used.
-The reframing of 'habitat' to only include the area immediately around the species or species' dwelling place is in poor faith and assumes that endangered organisms exist in ecological vacuums and do not depend on the environment around them for the complex interactions which they may depend on for life.
