The proposed changes disregard the significant level of assesment, evaluation, and science-backed protocols that are involved in wildlife protections. The extensiveness of the process reflects the level detail and care required to ensure the critical flora and fauna of the area are not further compromised than they already are. Cutting this down will lead to short cuts and failures that will be detrimental to the species we have a responsibility to protect.
Further, species are placed on the endangered species list through careful population monitoring. While this is a dynamic list, again based on consisten monitoring of populations, the government should not be able to remove species without due process. In doing so, allowing a bypass of the protections put in place - at which point, the policies will be a mere facade! The proposed definition of 'habitat' is also Insufficient, with species not being bound simply to a small area within which all of their needs are served. Many species have different levels of territories, migrate, or travel large distances regularly.
While there are many more points to make, these proposed changes are woefully Insufficient. Protecting Canada means protecting all of Canada - including the natural spaces, wildlife, and plants that are important pillars in the country and society as a whole.
