Changes to the ESA (including its repeal and replacement with the SCA) will serve only to support economic development at the expense of species at risk and their habitats in Ontario. There is no ‘balance’ being proposed with economic opportunities and changes will result in the further eroding of species and habitat protections in Ontario.
The current registration system operates on the honour system with little or no follow up from government as to whether the conditions of the registration are being followed, unless a complaint is lodged. This program is flawed and should not be expanded without resolving the lack of oversight in a manner that ensures adequate protection for species and habitats
Removal of prohibitions against harassment are not science-based. This change should not occur.
