Hello. I am extremely against these new changes to the ESA. At a time of climate change crisis, it is crucial that we protect our environment. These new changes aim to reduce red tape but is essentially creating a loop hole to destroy conservation efforts. First, the government should not have the authority to remove or add species from/to the endangered species list. Public servants are not scientists, they do not have the knowledge or skills to know what is endangered. Second, having a registration system instead of a permit system allows people to go over the line. Red tape is necessary in some areas and this is one of them. Way too many times we have people endangering animals because they won’t follow the regulations. These proposed changes are extremely concerning and seems to be in the interest for businesses instead of Ontario citizens. This is very upsetting.
