This is an absolutely shameful proposal that has nothing to do with environmental protection and everything to do with (literally) paving the way for developers to face zero hurdles so that they can do whatever they want, regardless of the consequences to our ecosystem. The main outlined goal is to ensure developers can act immediately without any due diligence, at which point their destruction and harm is irreversible. The entire point of having a review BEFORE approval is to prevent this. Regardless of whether you want to live in an entirely paved, freeway and condo-laden Ontario with exclusively foreign built amenities for the rich, our bees, flowers, trees, grasslands, wetlands, and wildlife are all part of a delicate structure that urgently needs our diligent protection. It is beyond arrogant to assume that our actions only serve the purpose of immediate need. We have a responsibility to protect our share of this planet, and it’s not done by rushing through process to build another empty condo tower no one wants to live in.
