This proposal is dangerous and unnecessary. No government should have the authority to remove species from lists of endangered species for any reason.
Changes to the ESA should never be made in the name of economic development and construction. Abuse like this is exactly why these protections are in place, and the proposal to change and repeal this act is proof we still need it.
The redefining of species habitats is ludicrous and completely ignores biodiversity. The reframed habitat definitions are akin to defining a human's habitat as the square foot of land they are currently standing on. No species, human or otherwise, can survive like that, let alone thrive. Species interact with each other. They do not thrive in isolation.
Biodiversity is already in decline. With the environment in such a dire situation already, this is the opposite of what Ontario needs. Ontario is nothing without its wildlife -- that's what we need to protect.
