Comment on the proposed interim changes to the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and a proposal for the Species Conservation Act, 2025
This bill prioritizes rapid development over the environment, Indigenous rights, and long-term sustainability. Ontario needs development, but it must be thoughtful, accountable, and grounded in respect for our land and Indigenous stewardship. Weakening habitat and ecosystem protections and pushing forward without proper pause risks irreversible damage. Once species are lost, there’s no going back. The “register first, ask questions later” approach strips critical oversight and allows development before understanding the full environmental impacts.
Ontario should be strengthening ecosystem protections and honouring its commitments to Indigenous relations, not sacrificing them for short-term gain.
