These proposed changes will see the abandonment Ontario’s commitment to protecting species and ensuring their recovery. The proposed regime would offer very limited protection to only a tiny fraction of the habitats species need to survive and recover. The Act would replace the science-based listing and permitting process, and give the government much too much discretion to refuse to protect species and their habitats.
This will be devasting to Ontario's ecosystems, which, once ravaged, cannot be replaced.
I condemn these proposals in the strongest terms possible and hope that our government regains sufficient sanity to withdraw or reverse this proposal.
