Our family is shocked that the government is not taking species at risk of extinction seriously. These species have evolved over a billion years only to be permanently killed by a highway? The most shocking and radical part of this plan is to allow the government to have discretion to remove protected species from the list.
This should absolutely not be the case, species should be added and removed by an independent science based committee as it is now. This radical proposal will have terrible and permanent destructive impacts on our environment. I do not want my 3 year old son growing up in an Ontario where the construction of highway is more important than the permanent extinction of a species.
Do not pass this law. It will hard generations of Ontarians. Extinction is forever.
