While the need for housing infrastructure is high, it shouldn’t be at the expense of endangered or threatened species that use these areas. The proposed update of self regulation are going to lead to distraction of habitats. The start of projects before an assessment of the area will just lead to animals losing spaces they call home. Permits should only be obtained after an area is deemed to contain no endangered species. A more proactive approach, that would maintain the protections of species, would be to asses land and zone it before permits are even applied for that area.
